About The Position

This position is for AEGD residents of NYU Langone Dental Medicine, specifically those assigned to the La Clinica de la Raza program site. La Clinica de la Raza, established in 1971, has grown into one of California's largest community-based clinics, offering a wide range of services including medical, dental, optical, women's health, and mental health across 35 sites. In 2019, La Clinica served over 91,000 patients, with the dental department serving over 32,000. The Dental Department at La Clinica de la Raza believes that access to dental care is crucial for primary health. They provide low-cost preventive and general dental services to address the gap in dental coverage for low-income families. Their mission is to deliver culturally appropriate, high-quality, and accessible healthcare to diverse communities. As a Community Health Center Dental Department, they aim to provide quality preventive and basic dental care to as many patients as possible, guided by principles of Patient Education, Quality Oral Care Delivery, and Mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients on the importance of oral health and its connection to systemic health, empowering them in oral self-care techniques.
  • Provide all aspects of preventive services and high-quality restorative procedures within the scope of the Dental Department.
  • Mentor student dentists, dental residents, dental hygienists, and dental assistants in clinical care delivery and public health concepts.
  • Introduce students to public health concepts of culturally and linguistically accessible healthcare delivery.
  • Promote staff development and growth.
  • Inspire community members to achieve optimal health and success.
  • Provide culturally appropriate preventive care, patient education, and basic general dental care.
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality, evidenced-based practices, and ethics.
  • Ensure all patients receive safe, efficient, timely, and appropriate care subject to continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure all patients being treated for the same oral problems receive the same level or quality of care.
  • Maintain a high level of professional performance through continuous quality improvement and appropriate delineation of clinical privileges.
  • Provide education and training in affiliation with established programs, ensuring education standards are maintained.
  • Initiate and maintain an active and continuous quality improvement program addressing all aspects of dental practice.
  • Provide basic preventive and general dental care to patients of all ages.
  • Focus on Phase I care: emergency services, examination and diagnosis, patient education, hygiene and preventive services, general direct restorative services, routine and surgical exodontia, routine endodontia, removable prosthodontic appliances to replace anterior teeth (stayplate), and referral to specialty services.
  • Conduct Phase II care if clinic and patient resources permit, including cosmetic services, endodontic retreats, removable prosthodontics, oral conscious sedation and hospital dentistry, orthodontics, fixed single and multi-unit prosthodontics, and implant services.
