About The Position

Provides support, crisis intervention, advocacy, referral, education and information to American Indian/Alaska Native victims/survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Ability to respond to emergency situations and provide crisis interventions to victims of sex trafficking, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Responds to rotating 24-hour crisis line schedule, after business hours. Provides case management support in program shelter and advocacy. Supports shelter residents in independent living. Assists with protection orders, safety planning, transportation, accompaniment to medical care, legal advocacy, financial assistance, and coordinating client appointments. Supports shelter residents in identifying long and short-term goals and assists with achieving them. Provides presentations/education and community outreach about program services to tribal departments and the community, raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence. Facilitates conflict resolution and maintains appropriate professional boundaries. Maintains confidential files and practices confidentiality of information and individuals as required by State and Federal laws and in accordance with employee policies. Manages donations, sorts, organizes, and distributes necessary items to residents for general use. Prepares rooms in the shelter for incoming residents. Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a similar field of study and two (2) years of directly related work experience working with domestic violence survivors or youth and families preferably in direct services with survivors or other crisis response, OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver’s License (ODL), meet company vehicle insurance requirements, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
  • A demonstrated understanding of problems of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking and stalking committed against Indian women and girls.
  • Familiarity with the role of community-based and tribally based programs in the prevention, intervention, and treatment of sexual and domestic violence.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including clients, general public, community, tribal agencies, and other agencies, and to communicate effectively and relate to American Indian/Alaska Native clients and program staff.
  • Ability to network effectively with community and tribal agencies and with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to meet and deal with a variety of managers, supervisors, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently toward broad objectives and be self-motivated to accomplish them.
  • Ability to plan, direct, control, and coordinate work in situations where numerous diverse demands are involved and the ability to implement comprehensive program services.
  • A demonstrated ability to assess a wide range of needs from victims of crime.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to make presentations to and work with diverse groups of people, including Tribal members, Tribal elders and the general public.
  • Experience working with computer and office equipment (printer/fax machines) in addition to knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Must not be a Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Program previous client within the last 12 months.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain client files, track progress.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
