About The Position

The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates (The League) is seeking a full-time Advocacy Communications Manager to join our Communications team. This role requires a strategic communicator with excellent writing and storytelling skills, strong political and advocacy instincts, and the ability to translate complex issues into compelling messages. The ideal candidate will develop and execute communications strategies across multiple channels, exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive communications, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. This is a collaborative project management role requiring the ability to balance competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and create engaging communications for stakeholders, policymakers, and grassroots audiences. The Advocacy Communications Manager provides strategic leadership for The League's advocacy communications efforts, translating complex legislative, regulatory, and political issues into clear, compelling messages that educate, engage, and mobilize credit union leaders, staff, members, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, Governmental Affairs, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of professional experience in public relations, strategic communications, advocacy communications, government affairs communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with digital communications platforms and channels, including email marketing, websites, social media, and other communications tools.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the credit union movement and the legislative and regulatory environment affecting credit unions is preferred.
  • Experience developing or directing visual communications, such as infographics, presentations, or other graphic materials, is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the strategic communications approach for advocacy initiatives, establishing priorities, messaging, timelines, and tactics across legislative, regulatory, political, and grassroots efforts.
  • Serving as a strategic communications advisor to advocacy leadership and senior executives, developing clear, compelling messaging that advances The League's priorities and strengthens the credit union movement's voice.
  • Leading public relations and external communications efforts related to advocacy priorities, including media relations, statements, announcements, opinion content, and other opportunities to elevate The League's advocacy work.
  • Translating complex legislative, regulatory, and political issues into accessible communications that inform, engage, and mobilize credit union leaders, staff, members, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Overseeing advocacy communications for major initiatives, events, grassroots campaigns, and emerging issues, ensuring timely, coordinated, and effective communications.
  • Developing and overseeing strategic advocacy resources, including talking points, toolkits, fact sheets, presentations, and other materials that support engagement and advocacy.
  • Identifying opportunities to showcase advocacy successes, policy accomplishments, and grassroots impact through compelling stories and communications.
  • Monitoring communications performance and audience engagement, using insights and data to continuously strengthen advocacy communications strategies.
  • Supporting visual communications for advocacy initiatives, including infographics, social graphics, presentations, and other visual assets.
