About The Position

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, capable, creative, and caring individual to join their team as an Advisor for the Advancing Success in Associate Pathways Program (ASAP). This is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded position reporting to the ASAP Director or designee. The Advisor will be part of an integrated college team, providing individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of community college students to help them progress through the program and achieve degree completion. The college is committed to providing educational access to a diverse community and fostering an environment that values equity, inclusion, and dignity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years of post-secondary academic advisement or counseling experience, OR Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of freshmen and transfer community college students.
  • Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office; and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
  • Must currently hold unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States.
  • Appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

  • Previous experience and/or desire to engage in non-traditional advisement delivery systems (including on-line advisement).

Responsibilities

  • Delivers comprehensive holistic planning, advisement and support to all ASAP students through degree completion.
  • Acts as liaison with student and academic support offices facilitating and tracking referrals and follow-through for grant reporting.
  • Facilitates evaluation for emergency funding and coordinates referrals to community agencies as necessary.
  • Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic and student support services.
  • Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
  • Performs data entry and maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student to manage student engagement and report data to SUNY System Administration, per grant requirements.
  • Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program.
  • Organizes and facilitates periodic special events and programs for students and faculty and staff.
  • May conduct or support delivery of ASAP student seminars on issues of importance to students.
  • Represents the ASAP program at internal and external events and meetings.
  • Maintains working knowledge of college services, policies, and procedures affecting the academic success of the student – and refers students, as appropriate, to on and off campus supports to address their needs to promote retention, persistence and completion.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
