Advisor - Part-Time
About The Position
MEC is more than a store; it's a hub for the outdoor community, a leader in sustainability, and a place where individuals can be themselves. People visit MEC to try new things and plan new adventures, and as a store Advisor, you will be instrumental in facilitating these experiences. Members (customers) seek advice and gear for activities such as hiking, camping, climbing, cycling, watersports, and snowsports. Advisors engage with individuals planning a wide range of trips, from dream expeditions to weekend getaways, catering to both first-time adventurers and seasoned outdoor experts. The role emphasizes being part of an incredible team, with staff frequently citing the people as their favorite aspect of working at MEC.
Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lb.
- Ability to walk 10,000 steps per day.
- Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus, not a must.
- Curiosity about gear and a desire to learn more.
- Fully open availability to work Saturdays or Sundays.
Nice To Haves
- Product knowledge in camping, cycling, packs, or any other outdoor activity.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts between Monday and Friday, 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
Responsibilities
- Give exceptional member service by matching people with gear that suits their needs.
- Share real-world experience about products.
- Assist with visual merchandising.
- Lend a hand to other staffers.
- Organize inventory and get members the products they need.
- Spread the word about MEC events and services.
- Learn about new products, technology, and features, including sustainability.
- Help more people in Canada get active outside, whether planning for a family camping trip or a backcountry expedition.
