Job Summary The Data Risk function within Enterprise Risk Management supports Bread Financial's commitment to responsible data stewardship. The team identifies and mitigates data-related risks by assessing data governance practices, monitoring regulatory compliance, and ensuring controls are designed and executed effectively. Associates at this level conduct analytical assessments, provide insights to Data Risk Advisors, and participate in initiatives that enhance data control maturity across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 8+ years experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Data Governance, Compliance, or related experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee intradepartmental initiatives focused on control enhancement, automation, and process optimization.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations to ensure projects strengthen the overall data-risk framework.
  • Provide coaching, shadowing, and skill-building opportunities to strengthen team capability. Encourage professional growth by modeling effective communication, analysis, and risk challenge techniques.
  • Lead assessment workshops, challenge sessions, and risk-acceptance discussions. Partner with IT and InfoSec to embed data-risk controls into emerging platforms and tools.
  • Design key risk indicators (KRIs) and data-quality measures to monitor control effectiveness. Build consensus across departments and ensure business decisions align with the enterprise risk appetite.
  • Coordinate responses to audits, examinations, and regulatory inquiries related to data governance. Interpret trends to identify areas of control weakness and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Maintain documentation and testing evidence to demonstrate Bread Financials’ compliance posture. Influence control design during system development to mitigate data integrity and privacy risks early in the lifecycle.
  • Author executive summaries and risk narratives for governance committees. Translate technical analyses into concise reports that inform senior management and promote transparency.
  • Identify innovation opportunities and advocate automation or AI-based control testing where feasible. Propose solutions that enhance the efficiency and precision of data-risk monitoring.

  • Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
  • Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December.
  • You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
