About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking an Athletics Program Advisor to support its student-athletes. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years in athletic academic advising and compliance at NJCAA and/or NCAA level.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years in athletic academic advising and compliance at NJCAA and/or NCAA level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NJCAA, Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and CSN policies.
  • Ability to manage academic and athletic advising responsibilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse student population, staff, and faculty.
  • Experience in using and interpreting FERPA and HIPAA policies.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and computer skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of internal, external and NJCAA auditing procedures.
  • Experience with the management of students and complex student schedules.
  • Skilled using word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing software.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, develop, and coordinate academic plans and support for over 200 CSN student athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with NJCAA, Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (Region 1), and CSN rules and regulations governing student athletes.
  • Support CSN’s ten (10) athletic programs and potentially future additions.
  • Grow and support existing advising infrastructure to meet student-athlete demands for academic monitoring and skill-building.
  • Meet and maintain all aspects of regulatory measures with the NJCAA.
  • Enhance and increase current graduation and transfer opportunities for student athletes.
  • Monitor academic success rates, data reports, unit reports, and NSHE requests.
  • Support the mission of CSN by providing student-athletes the opportunity to compete at their highest level of ability while emphasizing academic success, graduation, personal development, character growth, ethical conduct, and sportsmanship.
  • Work with the Director of Advising & Coaching Services, the Athletic Director, the VP for Academic Affairs, the Athletic Coordinator of Internal Operations, the Sports Information Director and Recreation Coordinator, as well as with all athletic coaches and instructional faculty to ensure compliance with institutional, accrediting, federal financial aid, and athletic regulations.
  • Ensure the compliance aspect of this position reports to the President and/or their designee as per NSHE regulation.
