Advisor, AI-Powered Business Intelligence

Eli Lilly and CompanyUs, IN

About The Position

AI-Powered Business Intelligence is a P5 senior leadership role within Lilly's BI&A Data Engineering organization. This individual will architect and drive the transformation of Lilly's enterprise business intelligence practice from traditional, static dashboard delivery toward an intelligent, insightful framework — anchored by the AI-BI initiative and the next-generation evolution of Dashboard Central. This leader will serve as the strategic and technical authority for how the organization discovers, surfaces, and delivers AI-generated insight at scale. The role requires equal command of people leadership, AI/ML product strategy, data engineering, and executive stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM degree (Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative subject area) preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence, including demonstrated senior technical leadership or people management responsibility.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering AI/ML or GenAI-powered analytics products in a large enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency with Databricks and the Microsoft data and analytics stack (Azure, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Teams); experience with cloud-native data architectures required.
  • Validated ability to lead multi-functional engineering teams and drive alignment across business, technology, and data collaborators.
  • Strong executive communication and influence skills — ability to translate complex technical concepts for senior business audiences.
  • Experience with LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic AI development patterns, and natural language interfaces applied to data and analytics.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or regulated industry environments.
  • Familiarity with Experience building and deploying analytics or data products within a React-based frontend ecosystem, including integration with enterprise data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks, including multi-step orchestration, tool-use patterns, and agent observability.
  • Background in semantic layer technologies (e.g., dbt, Cube.dev, Databricks AI/BI Genie, Microsoft Fabric, PBI) and data mesh architectural patterns.
  • Experience with BI tools including Tableau, Power BI, or comparable platforms — and a track record of driving tool modernization.
  • Comfort operating in a matrixed, fast-moving organization with high ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience building communities of practice, internal standards bodies, or engineering guilds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end product vision and roadmap for the AI-BI program, transforming Dashboard Central from a passive reporting tool into an active, intelligence-generating platform.
  • Define the architectural north star for moving from curated dashboards to proactive, AI-surfaced insight delivery — including natural language querying, automated anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and narrative generation.
  • Partner with the BI&A Data Engineering leadership team to align the AI-BI roadmap with Lilly's broader AI-ready data strategy, personalization capabilities, and agentic AI initiatives.
  • Establish frameworks for intelligence layer design — including semantic layer standards, insight ontology, and LLM-augmented analytics patterns — applicable across the enterprise.
  • Lead business capability assessments with commercial, medical, and functional partners to identify and prioritize high-value use cases for intelligence-based insight.
  • Lead a distributed product team, providing technical direction, coaching, and career development to engineers, data scientists, and BI practitioners.
  • Collaborate closely with global delivery center leadership to align offshore and onshore capacity with AI-BI program objectives, ensuring engineering resources are effectively planned and leveraged.
  • Build a high-performing team culture that values engineering rigor, user emotional intelligence, and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
  • Lead the upskilling of the team on co-agency — the human+agent collaborative development model — bringing to bear Claude Code and agentic AI tooling to fundamentally transform how the team builds, tests, and ships data and analytics capabilities.
  • Define hiring profiles, manage performance expectations, and strengthen team capability in areas of GenAI, NLP, prompt engineering, and intelligent analytics.
  • Serve as a senior voice for the BI&A engineering community, supplying to guild leadership, community of practice, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of AI-BI capabilities within the Dashboard Central platform, including integration with Databricks, cloud data services, and Lilly's AI infrastructure.
  • Ensure delivery quality through engineering standard methodologies: CI/CD, data quality frameworks, model observability, and robust testing for AI-generated outputs.
  • Drive adoption of the Databricks and LLM-powered insight generation patterns established by the BI&A engineering organization.
  • Define and operationalize deployment and engagement patterns across the full delivery stack — Databricks for data services, Microsoft Power BI for governed visualization, Microsoft Teams for embedded insight delivery, and Lilly React applications for custom interactive experiences.
  • Partner with Tech@Lilly and platform engineering teams to ensure infrastructure readiness, data availability, and scalable deployment of AI-BI features.
  • Communicate AI-BI vision, progress, and outcomes to senior Lilly leadership with clarity and business impact framing.
  • Represent the AI-BI program in multi-functional forums including commercial, IT governance, legal/compliance, and data strategy councils.
  • Develop cases, investment proposals, and executive presentations that connect AI-BI capabilities to Lilly's strategic priorities.
