IFC’s Vice Presidency for Strategy and Operations Support comprises functions critical to advancing IFC’s corporate priorities and business objectives, including Corporate Strategy, Fragile & Conflict Affected Situations, Development Impact Measurement, Operations Management, Strategic Initiatives & Resources, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Communications & External Relations and IFC operational units. Together, units within the Vice Presidency, including those operating as part of integrated WBG functions, provide strategic guidance, operational support, and institutional capabilities needed to enable the effective delivery of IFC’s development impact on the ground.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree with a minimum of eight years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of IFC’s operations and related operational principles, financial instruments, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong work ethic, unquestionable integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Courage of conviction, willingness to raise difficult issues and disagree with the VP.
  • Strong track record as a problem-solver and team player, recognized for her/his ability to get things done.
  • High degree of responsiveness and ability to effectively prioritize work among multiple competing demands in a high-stakes environment with minimal supervision, while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to think fast and take decisions on the basis of incomplete/imperfect information under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to conduct quick research on a wide variety of topics and to rapidly analyze and synthesize information from varied sources into concise conclusions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated willingness to provide support, to lead or follow as the situation demands.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to deal with sensitive issues in a multi-cultural environment and build trust and effective working relations with clients and colleagues.
  • High degree of tact and discretion in dealing with internal and external clients, staff and managers at all levels, and in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and ability to synthesize complex issues and substantial documentation into effective oral and written briefs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to the VP on all matters relating to the functioning of the VPU and the VPU’s work program, including substantive input, analysis, and recommendations as appropriate, to ensure that the VP is adequately briefed and apprised of important issues as they arise.
  • Review, identify key issues, and advise the VP on documents prepared for various internal and external audiences.
  • Review and revise (and in some cases, prepare) briefs, speeches, and talking points for a wide spectrum of meetings and events.
  • Actively liaise with relevant Directors/Managers on work program items requiring the VP’s attention, problem solve, and conduct necessary organizational coordination for action.
  • Working closely with the rest of the VP’s office, ensure that all relevant views are integrated in notes, briefing materials and advice provided to the VP.
  • Prepare and attend meetings with the VP; ensure appropriate follow-through on actions, decisions, and commitments made by the VP by working with the parties responsible for implementation.
  • Closely interact with other Advisers across IFC and the WBG to ensure appropriate information flow and strong coordination.
  • Coordinate and manage activities related to the VP’s business travel, including external events, meetings with clients and partners, and visits to WBG country offices.
