About The Position

The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York is recruiting an Adviser on Business Promotion for the Consulate’s Team on Culture, Business and Communication. Norway is a highly developed and open economy known for its strong public institutions, sustainable energy leadership, and a collaborative business culture rooted in trust and transparency. With its global outlook, Norway is an attractive and stable partner for international trade, diplomacy, and investment. International exchange and the promotion of Norwegian business are key priorities for the Norwegian Consulate General in New York. The Consulate continues to build on the growing interest in business cooperation within energy security, the maritime sector, life science, health tech, seafood, smart buildings and design. The U.S. is an important export market for Norway, and the Consulate General seeks to further strengthen economic ties between Norway and the U.S. Another core area of the Consulate’s work is strengthening the visibility of Norwegian art and culture, including the creative industries for the American market. Established in 1906, the Consulate General in New York is the largest and oldest Norwegian Consulate General in the United States. Its consular district covers 25 states on the East Coast. The Consulate General is currently seeking an Adviser on Business Promotion. The adviser will also contribute to the Consulate’s understanding of U.S . policy and regulatory developments relevant to Norwegian – U.S. relationships and interests. Promoting Norwegian commercial and policy interests through outreach, events, and collaboration with other Team Norway organizations across these policy areas will be a key part of the role.

Requirements

  • Higher education or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in the business or public sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Norway and interest in Norwegian politics and priorities
  • A flexible and service-minded approach
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Applicants must hold valid U.S. residence and work permits or be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and delivering projects and events to support closer Norwegian–U.S. business collaboration, including grant management
  • Preparing and implementing tailored visitor programs for relevant American experts and press traveling to Norway, as well as for high‑level Norwegian officials visiting New York
  • Developing and maintaining contact with state and city administrations, industry, and non-government stakeholders
  • Working closely with the broader Norwegian network, including the Embassy in Washington D.C., other Consulates, Innovation Norway, and additional members of Team Norway
  • Building relations with relevant media, identifying opportunities for press coverage, and preparing social media content in cooperation with the Consulate’s communications team
  • Undertaking other responsibilities as assigned
