About The Position
Hutco, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Advanced Shipfitters / Fabricators for shipbuilding work in Newport News, Virginia. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of documented commercial or naval shipfitting experience. This position requires advanced structural fabrication, multi-pass tack welding, burning, heating, and the ability to interpret complex structural drawings and blueprints.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of documented commercial or naval experience as a First Class Shipfitter
- Proficient in multi-pass tack welding
- Experience using oxygen/propane burning and heating torches
- Ability to read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fractional dimensions
- Experience working in physically demanding shipbuilding, marine, or heavy steel fabrication environments
- Familiarity with applicable shipbuilding OSHA safety requirements
- Successfully complete the Multi-Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using the SMAW process with MIL-10718-M (A-5A) filler metal (Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions)
- Ability to pass required qualification testing without prior training
