The Advanced Research Scientist conducts laboratory and/or field experiments using standard and advanced scientific techniques and equipment in areas such as molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, physiology, and pathology or microscopy. The position is in Dr. Pedram Hamrah’s basic science laboratory in the University of South Florida’s Department of Ophthalmology. Research focuses on immune mechanisms, particularly neuroimmune crosstalk in the cornea. The position is grant-funded, on-site, and not eligible for visa sponsorship. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal Investigator on research into how corneal leukocytes regulate the peripheral and central nervous systems, and how neuronal mechanisms regulate corneal immune privilege, inflammation, and immune homeostasis. The scientist may independently develop protocols and establish laboratory methodologies, and will be closely involved in writing and presenting research discoveries. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
