About The Position

Function as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of Nurse Practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher, and administrator to deliver high-quality care and positive patient outcomes for adult Gastroenterology patients across outpatient clinics and infusion services at our Urbandale, Iowa location. Practice independently and collaboratively in accordance with licensure, scope of practice, and collaborative agreements. Support daily operational workflow and quality initiatives within the Infusion Suite within our Iowa Healthcare Urbandale, Iowa site. Provide direct patient care for infusion therapies, including biologic and monoclonal antibody infusions. Collaborate with prescribing providers to develop, implement, and oversee infusion and Beacon care plans. Act as a liaison between the Infusion Suite, providers, nursing staff, and patients. Assist with prior authorization appeals and infusion-related clinical documentation. Provide education and serve as a resource for infusion nursing staff. May be asked to assist with supporting procedure suite operation in the future as needed.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree is required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in GI is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization.
  • Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for motility disorder patients.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
  • Determine nursing care requirements and develop programs for motility disorder patients, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions.
  • Promote health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena.
  • Perform medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  • Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  • Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise.
  • Provide education to external agencies, community and other health professionals.
  • Generate research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations.
  • Incorporate research findings into practice.
  • Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
  • Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
  • Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
  • Participate in professional nursing activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations.
