About The Position

The Advanced Product Development (APD) Systems Staff Engineer will lead elements of systems design and development for the Edison Works NGP3 New Product Introduction (NPI) program, serving as an experienced technical expert in turbomachinery systems engineering. The role involves systems integration and design for the F110-F4B2 engine's turbomachinery, including disks, shafts, frames, cases, ducts, and airfoils. The engineer will collaborate across internal and external engineering disciplines and may mentor others in systems engineering, mechanical and thermal design fundamentals, test, producibility, and engine certification and qualification. This position is for an established technical and programmatic engineer who can build team capabilities while leading by doing. It impacts engineering approaches, projects, and programs, as well as the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team, and contributes significantly to setting priorities. The role has moderate autonomy and requires strong operational judgment. The APD Section develops advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts, including turbomachinery systems, military inlet and exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power and thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and advanced control systems. Its work encompasses design, integration, testing, and support of technologies for future military flight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aerospace propulsion or related mechanical systems design, integration, or management.
  • Ability to maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite for clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Current U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Experience in systems engineering and integration for gas turbine turbomachinery, in the hot section, cold section, or both.
  • Experience on military engine programs, ideally the F110 family, including NPI work from design through test and production.
  • Strong mechanical and thermal design fundamentals and the technical depth to work closely with component design teams.
  • Experience working with analysis disciplines and translating their results into system-level decisions.
  • Experience with engine qualification and certification, including developing qualification artifacts and evidence.
  • Experience working directly with customers and airframers to resolve technical issues and explain program status.
  • A hands-on, “lead by doing” approach, with a history of mentoring engineers and building team capability.
  • Strong collaboration skills, including dividing responsibilities with a peer and keeping work aligned across areas.
  • Comfort working in a new or changing team and flexibility to help shape the role’s scope.
  • Clear communication with technical, program, and customer audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems design and integration of the F110-F4B2 turbomachinery for the NGP3 New Product Introduction program.
  • Work with the F110 turbomachinery design organization to keep system requirements, interfaces, and design intent consistent across components.
  • Collaborate with aeromechanics, stress, thermal, and other analysis teams, translating results into system-level design decisions.
  • Share turbomachinery systems responsibility with a peer focal, divide ownership between hot and cold sections, and integrate across the whole engine.
  • Coordinate with other systems integrators to support smooth work and information flow across the organization.
  • Work with the aircraft integration team and qualification and certification leaders to develop qualification artifacts and the engine qualification story.
  • Work with the customer to resolve technical issues and support program-level integration.
  • Mentor engineers in systems engineering, mechanical and thermal design fundamentals, test, producibility, and certification.
  • Shape engineering approaches and priorities to improve team quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Use sound operational judgment while working with moderate autonomy.
