About The Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is responsible for functioning under the direct supervision of the Administrative Program Manager of the Perinatal & Reproductive Health Division. Primary responsibilities include providing technical assistance and support to advanced practice nurses and other health providers statewide who provide maternity and family planning clinical services.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, recognition as a certified Advanced Practice Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, and three years' experience practicing as an APRN.
  • Approval for prescriptive authority requires current licensure in Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse and as a Certified Nurse Practitioner CNP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within 60 calendars days of the entry on duty date.
  • The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse must hold a graduate degree at an advanced practice level or a postmaster's certificate at an advanced practice level if the master's degree is in nursing, in order to be eligible for initial application for prescriptive authority.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and techniques; of expense control and purchasing procedures; of the philosophy and objectives of the Women's Health programs; and of the principles and practices of effective supervision.
  • Ability is required to direct, motivate, and evaluate staff; to plan and implement programs; to develop controls to monitor effectiveness of programs; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and, demonstrated ability to plan and implement an effective health care program.
  • Use of N-95 respirator is required.
  • Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring and motivation for the development of an advanced practice nurse.
  • Plan, organize, and direct health services for maternity and family planning programs.
  • Monitor to ensure goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to clients.
  • Establishment and tracking of quality improvement indicators and other information concerning services and care to ensure that resources are available to provide quality services consistent with current evidence-based standards of care.
  • Annual monitoring and evaluation of advanced practice health care providers.
  • Development and presentation of health-related educational programs for professional and non-professional staff.
  • Participation, consultation, and collaboration in the development of long-range plans for health care programs.
  • Interpretation and communication regarding agency and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
  • Analysis and evaluation of reports and other information and coordination of quality improvement activities concerning the care of clients.
  • Serve as a team member for site visits when indicated and contract monitoring visits Subrecipient contract monitoring.
  • Collect and abstract maternal mortality cases for quarterly meetings.
  • Cover county health departments when local APRN's are out on leave or when there is a vacancy.
  • Assist with orientation of new APRNs in the county health departments.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding program implementation for internal and external partners and county health department staff.
  • Performs comprehensive physical examinations and secures health histories.
  • Performs or orders lab tests.
  • Conducts invasive procedures including but not limited to pelvic exams; breast exams; insertion of long-acting reproductive contraception and sub dermal contraceptive implants.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals.
  • Counsel patients, family members and others related to health problems, prescribed treatments and use of pharmaceuticals and procedures.
  • Reviews and analyzes lab tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic data.
  • Provides a higher level of expertise in diagnosis and treatment modalities.
  • Consults and collaborates with physicians or other providers as needed related to patient care.
