About The Position

Tennessee Oncology, a prominent community-based cancer care specialist with a leading clinical trial network, is seeking a talented and highly-motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP). Established in 1976, Tennessee Oncology's mission is to provide accessible, high-quality cancer care and clinical research expertise to patients in convenient community locations. The APP will work collaboratively with surgeons and clinical staff to deliver patient-centered care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, supporting the entire continuum of care. This role involves clinical leadership, promoting evidence-based practice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the practice's goals for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. The APP will also support professional development and mentorship within the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Active state licensure and national board certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA) are required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.

• Knowledge of the Advanced Practice Practitioner as outlined in the Tennessee Oncology Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Advanced clinical knowledge of surgical patient care, including pre-operative, perioperative, and post-operative management across outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to manage complex patient conditions and adjust care plans appropriately.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams while providing patient education.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality improvement, and patient safety standards (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission)
• Strong organizational, documentation, and EMR skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Knowledge of surgical principles, sterile technique, perioperative workflow, and procedural experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) optional.

Responsibilities

• Conduct new patient evaluations, follow-up visits, and post-operative assessments in the clinic setting.
• Perform inpatient rounding, clinical assessments, and hospital consultations, with occasional travel to affiliated hospitals as needed.
• Assist in pre-operative evaluations, risk assessments, perioperative optimization, and discharge coordination.
• Provide thorough patient education regarding procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
• Serve as a patient advocate and navigator, helping patients understand surgical pathways, timelines, and recovery expectations.
• Participate in after-hours and weekend call coverage as assigned by the practice.
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests and imaging; adjust care plans accordingly.
• Prescribe medications and manage ongoing treatment in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Perform minor in-office procedures within the scope of licensure and clinical need.
• Support clinic operations through timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), care coordination, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care across all surgical specialties.
• Participate in clinical audits, safety initiatives, and quality improvement projects to enhance surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
• Collaborate with billing teams to ensure appropriate coding and documentation for surgical procedures and clinic visits.
• Participate in clinical research, data collection, or quality improvement initiatives to advance surgical outcomes and practice efficiency.
• Mentor and precept nursing or physician assistant students, fostering clinical education and professional growth.
• Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure and certification standards.
• Participate in departmental and organizational meetings, contributing to policy and process improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards.
