About The Position

Cincinnati Children's is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Pre-Anesthesia Consult Clinic. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) evaluates pediatric patients scheduled for procedures requiring anesthesia, helping identify potential risks, optimize health, and prepare children for safe anesthesia and surgery. The role involves collaborating with anesthesia providers and a multidisciplinary team, coordinating with medical and surgical specialists, and providing family-centered education and follow-up. The position also participates in the Periop SHOPPE, a multidisciplinary program that identifies and optimizes patients' medical, behavioral, and social needs before surgery. SHOPPE duties typically account for approximately 0.2–0.3 FTE. Full orientation and training for this subspecialty are expected approximately 9–12 months after general orientation. The role is based across Cincinnati Children's Burnet, Liberty, Eden, and Eastgate campuses, with full-time 40-hour weeks consisting of 8-hour shifts with varying start times between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The APP provides patient care within the scope of the subspecialty role and applicable clinical privileges, which will not exceed the scope of the collaborating or supervising physician. The role includes assessing and diagnosing conditions, developing and monitoring individualized plans of care, ordering and monitoring appropriate interventions, documenting and evaluating outcomes, and maintaining professional competency. The APP also contributes to quality improvement, professional development, patient advocacy, and the advancement of pediatric care.
