About The Position

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who works collaboratively with physicians, is responsible for providing comprehensive care and who demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with oncologic and hematologic conditions. This position will be located at our Southern Hills clinic, located in the Las Vegas, NV area. The APP (either APRN or PA) provides care within his/her scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, and institutional policy and practice agreements. Scope: Under supervision or in collaboration with practice physicians, involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine. Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research. May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program (for APRN)
  • Nationally certified as AGNP, ANP, FNP, AGNP, or GNP (for APRN)
  • Active State of Nevada Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Registered Nurse (RN) license (for APRN)
  • Successful completion of a course of training in residence as a physician assistant approved by one of the following entities affiliated with the American Medical Association or its successor organization: The Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or is successor organization, The Commission on Allied Health Education and Program or its successor organization, The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistants or its successor organization (for PA-C)
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or its successor organization (for PA-C)

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of clinical experience in outpatient oncology setting as an APP
  • AOCNP certification (Once eligible, obtainment of AOCNP certification required)

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for individual patients
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol; prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assists physicians and performs procedures as needed
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides education
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs
  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice
  • Knowledgeable of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements
  • Completes patient charge tickets
  • Provides case management for oncology clients and their families
  • Serves as a resource person for the nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials
  • May supervise the activities of clinical nursing
  • Conducts comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of oncology/hematology patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians, other health professionals and health related agencies
  • Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs
  • Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice including chemotherapy
  • Follow ethical principles regarding patient confidentiality, informed consent and unanticipated adverse outcomes
  • Maintain clinical documentation according to practice guidelines and standards
  • Participate in education of students, new APPs, and other health care professionals
  • Participate in organizational and departmental meetings, educational opportunities, committees and workgroups as necessary
  • Active engagement and promotion of CCCN research program
