About The Position

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician. Provide patient care services under the supervision of the Physician and/or Medical Director.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document detailed patient medical histories.
  • Conduct patient assessments and physical examinations, documenting findings and relevant clinical information.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including imaging, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies, to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, document patient progress, and support continuity of care.
  • Educate and counsel patients on treatment plans, preventive care, health maintenance, and lifestyle management.
  • Provide inpatient care and participate in hospital rounding schedules, including weekend coverage up to two (2) weekends a month.
  • Support the educational mission of the Department of Surgery through participation in seminars, conferences, and special programs.
  • Collaborate with physicians, medical students, residents, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver multidisciplinary patient care.
