About The Position

The Clinics Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is responsible for the care of those individuals directed to the clinics via hospital-based programs and for the comprehensive care to patients in the inpatient setting, demonstrating a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered in Urology.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty. Must be certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • Physician Assistant: Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
  • Current Advance Practice RN (APRN) licensure to practice in California (and/or NV, depending upon the position being sought);
  • Current ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) or AANP (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners) certification required. Current PNCB (Pediatric Nursing Certification Board) or current ANCC is required if requesting to work in pediatrics.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and must maintain certification at all times.
  • Must have a Collaborative Service Agreement (CA) or evidence of Supervising Physician Agreement (NV State Medical Board), as applicable, with a designated supervising physician member of the Hospital’s medical staff (upon hiring, manager will initiate).
  • Current, unrestricted DEA certificate in CA and/or NV, as applicable (Schedules II-V). Nevada Pharmacy Board certificate, if applying to work in NV.;
  • Ability to participate in a federally funded program (Medicare and Medicaid).
  • Current CA and/or NV State license in good standing;
  • Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certified;
  • Must have a Collaborative Agreement (CA) or evidence of Supervising Physician Agreement (NV State Medical Board), as applicable, with a designated supervising physician member of the Hospital’s medical staff (upon hiring, manager will initiate).
  • Physician Assistants must complete an educational course in controlled substances that meets the standards of practice by TFHD and the State of California within 6 months of hire into job.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Cardiology practice/service line is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates clinical competence to provide adult urology care with or without sub specialty.
  • Develops and implements education programs related to population needs.
  • Performs health assessments through collection of a complete health history, performing physical exams and utilizing basic laboratory tests.
  • Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and access patient's clinical problems and healthcare needs.
  • Maintains precise and complete records of patients with clinical findings.
  • Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to physicians and community agencies.
  • Provides and promotes preventative health maintenance services.
  • Provides all primary, secondary, and tertiary care within the protocols developed in collaboration with the supervising physicians.
  • Orders or transmits orders for x-ray, other studies, therapeutic diets, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, medications, and nursing services.
  • Orders, transmits orders for, performs, or assists in the performance of laboratory procedures, screening procedures, and therapeutic procedures.
  • Recognizes and evaluates situations calling for immediate physician attention and institutes treatment procedures essential for the life of the patient.
  • Initiates arrangements for admissions, completes forms and charts pertinent to medical records, and provides services to patients requiring continuing care, including home care.
  • Performs surgical procedures which are customarily performed under local anesthesia without the personal presence of the supervising physician. All other surgical procedures requiring other forms of anesthesia will be performed and/or assisted in accordance with the provider’s medical staff privileges.
  • First or second assist at surgery.
  • Conducts comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.
  • Establishes medical diagnosis.
  • Provides medical management.
  • Accurately and appropriately transcribes or executes standing orders at the direction of the supervising physician. Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice.
  • Discusses proposed surgical procedures with attendant risks and potential complications to obtain proper patient informed consent.
  • Sees patients in follow-up for routine post-operative care and manage complications related to surgery.
  • Provides appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding patient care issues.
  • Communicates effectively with referring health care providers.
  • Performs daytime/on call hospital consultations as needed.
  • Potential to assist in the Operating Room.
  • Potential for overnight call shifts
  • Performs routine clinical procedures independently as outlined in practice agreements/scope of practice including, but not limited to, the following: Catheter insertion, Catheter changes, Complex bladder irrigation, Urodynamic Testing
  • Potential for additional procedures independently as outlined in the collaborative practice agreement/scope of practice while under the direction and supervision of the responsible physician
