About The Position

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Requirements

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.
Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Responsibilities

Conducts thorough clinical interviews and assessments with inmates, ensuring documentation is completed daily.
Provides outpatient mental health care for inmates with severe mental illness or those considered high-risk.
Writes clinical assessments based on sound, balanced judgment.
Manages referrals to medical and mental health providers as needed.
Facilitates and documents releases from Crisis Development Observation (CDO), Mental Health Observation (MHO), and Behavioral Health Follow-up (BHF) referrals.
Identifies and manages risks related to inmate mental health during all interactions.
Reports threats or concerns (e.g., Offender Protection Investigations or safety threats) to security staff per Safe Prisons Plan.
Prioritizes tasks with a focus on risk management.
Maintains accurate inmate/patient reminders and records.
Completes all required documentation by close of business each day.
Adheres to all TDCJ Health Services, ACA, TTUHSC, and Outpatient Behavioral Health guidelines.
Meets or exceeds monthly productivity goals set by the Behavioral Health Management Team.
Responds professionally to supervision, accepting and applying feedback constructively.
Keeps supervisors informed of relevant clinical and administrative issues.
Attends trainings and reads relevant materials to enhance clinical skills.
Uses professional development funds for licensure renewal and continuing education.
