About The Position

Join UChicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) within the Neurosurgery team. As a hybrid, inpatient/outpatient/OR Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, you will manage our general neurosurgery and consultative neurosurgery patients and leverage knowledge of critical neurological conditions to care for the adult patient population. Sign on bonus up to $10,000.00 and relocation available Our Neurosurgery clinical teams have expertise in the treatment of many neurological disorders, including: Brain and spinal cord injuries Brain infections (encephalitis and meningitis) Brain swelling Brain tumors Nerve and muscle problems that affect breathing, such as myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré syndrome Status epilepticus Stroke Any catastrophic disorder affecting neurologic function

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited (Physician Assistant) educational program
  • Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration
  • Certification in ACLS

Nice To Haves

  • APP Experience or experience as an RN in a neurosurgery role or related
  • Experience in an academic medical center or tertiary/quaternary care setting
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience or training in a surgical setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with attending surgeons, residents, fellows, nursing, and ancillary teams
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (Epic preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision-making in assessing, diagnosing, and initiating delegated medical treatments.
  • Deliver comprehensive patient-centered care through clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests within scope of practice.
  • Prescribe medications.
  • Coordinate consultations and referrals.
  • Provide surgical first-assist support.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to plan, organize, and direct patient care.
  • Contribute to family support services, discharge planning, staff education, clinical consultation, quality improvement efforts, and research activities to advance patient outcomes and program excellence.
