About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive care for orthopedic patients, including post-operative follow-up, physical assessments, and assisting physicians with patient care and procedures. The provider will manage patient care efficiently, interpret diagnostic tests, document encounters accurately, and collaborate with various healthcare staff and external medical personnel. Additional duties include inpatient hospital coverage, discharge reporting, recommending levels of care, managing medical complications in surgical cases, and assisting with patient transfers.

Requirements

  • Maintain a current, unencumbered Colorado Licensure, Federal DEA and IBOP certifications.
  • Complete adequate CME as required by licensure.
  • Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • At least 2 years experience working in orthopedics or emergency care settings evaluating and treating a broad range of patients in terms of age (infant to elderly), medically compliant (infectious disease, cardiac, orthopedic, etc.) and acuity level routine, urgent, and emergent.
  • Professional and well-groomed appearance, including during call hours.
  • Communicate positively and effectively, both written and verbally, with residents, family, and staff.
  • Ability to use different EHR/ software for patient documentation purposes.
  • Communication skills between staff, patients, family members and consultants.
  • Math skills to calculate medication dosages, etc.
  • Ability to address, understand, and recognize the needs of patients and family members on multiple levels.
  • Must act with compassion and care.
  • High level diagnostic thinking.
  • Current knowledge of up to date clinical information.
  • Must be able to perform with frequent interruptions and under pressure.
  • Must demonstrate problem solving skills in an evolving environment.
  • Work with honesty, compassion and integrity at all times.
  • Adherence to ALL PMC confidentiality procedures and policies.

  • A second language is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and remove dressings, sutures, and/or staples.
  • Evaluate, treat, and provide follow-up care for patients in post-op status.
  • Perform physical assessments, work-related return to work evaluations and physicals, and disability type determinations.
  • Assist the physician in all patient duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs, patient history, and procedures.
  • Evaluate and perform examinations, provide stabilization for patients with acute serious medical conditions and injury.
  • Facilitate transfer as appropriate to an emergency facility or hospital.
  • Manage patient care in a timely manner and maintain a level of productivity equal to other providers on staff.
  • Interpret radiology, EKG, laboratory, and basic pulmonary function tests.
  • Thoroughly and accurately document every patient encounter.
  • Perform required quality assurance steps in the patient care process.
  • Bill appropriately for each visit.
  • Interact with office, laboratory, radiology, and nursing staff as part of the patient care process.
  • Interface, as appropriate and necessary, with providers and medical personnel within the hospital.
  • Inpatient hospital coverage beginning at the time of admission for daytime admissions, or at the time of transfer for nighttime admissions.
  • Timely discharge reporting to the primary care physicians.
  • Recommendations regarding the appropriate level of care.
  • Initiation and discontinuation of consultants on medical cases.
  • Management of surgical cases with medical complications.
  • Assistance with the transfer of out-of-area patients to hospital.
