Under Physician supervision, the Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner may assume primary responsibility in their respective specialty area according to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Responsible for management of selected at risk or complex patients and aggregate patient populations in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other Healthcare team members. Must demonstrate the knowledge, critical thinking and skills to plan, coordinate and provide care on a continuing basis. This is predominantly an outpatient practice, with 20% or less time spent in the inpatient setting. The role may involve sharing practice call requirements, performing procedures, and providing first assist coverage, but does not have operating room or ED/Unassigned call requirements. The provider will complete thorough, timely documentation and comply with scope of care under the guidance of federal, state, and/or local regulatory agencies, as well as the supervising physician and/or protocols. Appropriate referral and/or transfer of patients, ordering of tests, and ongoing patient assessment and care planning are key responsibilities. The provider will also recognize and address patient and family distress and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
