About The Position

Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, The University of Chicago Medicine, as an Advanced Practice Provider in the Short Stay Unit. As the Advanced Practice Provider, you will be responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management in the general medicine patient population. The APP will manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. Additionally, you will provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, and completing administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. Requirements

  • Master's of Science in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s program (for Physician Assistant candidates)
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois PA licensure / registration (for Physician Assistant candidates)
  • Certification as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • Ability to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers
  • Minimum of 2 years inpatient, general medicine or hospital medicine experience as a PA or NP
  • AGACNP certification (FNP or ANP will be considered with relevant experience as a PA or NP)
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing illness
  • Pre and post-operative patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests
  • Ability to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making, provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services
  • Assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care on an advanced level
