About The Position

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within the inpatient setting. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at the Children's Wisconsin hospital campus. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. The Department of Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. The purpose of this position is to evaluate patients and render care, within the scope of practice outlined by state statue, within inpatient, operating room, and outpatient settings for congenital (Adult & Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgical Services located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Children’s Wisconsin, and Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care to adult and pediatric patients in a blended setting. Post Operative Procedures include but are not limited to the following: Chest tube insertion/removal and maintenance, Arterial line placement (percutaneous/cut-down), Intracardiac line removal/maintenance, Removal temporary pacing wires, Wound VAC placement/maintenance, Post-Op VAD care. Intra-operative Procedures (based on level of experience) include, but are not limited to the following: Chest Opening to pericardium (virgin/resternotomy), 1st & 2nd Surgical assisting, Chest closure. Provides for afterhours patients care that requires on-call coverage to include patient rounds and performing procedures when called to the hospital for emergency services. Call time will be determined by the service. Will provide services at multiple hospitals based on the location of the clinical practice. Participation in administrative or non-clinical activities (CHW,HHI,MCW) as required. Scheduling flexibility is required to accommodate changing business needs.

Requirements

  • Wisconsin RN license (for Advanced Practice Nurse)
  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License (for Advanced Practice Nurse)
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification as Pediatric Acute Care NP preferred (for Advanced Practice Nurse)
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
  • DEA Licensure
  • Wisconsin PA license (for Physician Assistant)
  • Certification by NCCPA (for Physician Assistant)
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
  • DEA Licensure

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary or specialty medical care within the inpatient setting.
  • Evaluate patients and render care within inpatient, operating room, and outpatient settings.
  • Provide direct patient care to adult and pediatric patients in a blended setting.
  • Perform post-operative procedures including chest tube insertion/removal and maintenance, arterial line placement, intracardiac line removal/maintenance, temporary pacing wire removal, wound VAC placement/maintenance, and post-op VAD care.
  • Perform intra-operative procedures including chest opening, surgical assisting, and chest closure (based on experience).
  • Provide after-hours patient care, including on-call coverage, patient rounds, and performing procedures during emergencies.
  • Provide services at multiple hospitals based on clinical practice location.
  • Participate in administrative or non-clinical activities as required.
