About The Position

Acclaim Health is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their Neurosurgery team. This role involves a rotation between outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings, with a requirement for 7 days of 24-hour call per 4 weeks, including weekends and holidays. The APP will assist in delivering medical care by reviewing and monitoring treatment and therapy plans, ordering and interpreting labs, imaging, and procedures related to neurosurgery. They will perform clinical procedures under the direction of an attending physician, work with Orthopedic residents for spine patient management, and assist surgeons in the operating room for spinal and cranial cases. Additionally, the APP will conduct bedside interventions, including the placement of intracranial pressure monitors, external ventricular drains, and lumbar drains, under the supervision of an attending provider. The position requires comfort working in a large public/county facility and the ability to demonstrate working knowledge, competency in assessment techniques, diagnosis, and treatment processes specific to neurosurgery. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and oral communication skills are essential, as is the ability to be self-directed and take initiative in community activities and medical outreach. Demonstrating patient-centered behavior is also a key requirement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing (AGACNP) OR Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program (PA)
  • 2 years of experience working as an Advanced Practice Provider in Neurosurgery preferred.
  • Physician Assistant (PA) OR Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) with a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • DEA license required.
  • Must be comfortable working in a large public/county facility
  • Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge in area assigned, and competency in assessment techniques, diagnosis and treatment processes that apply to the assigned medical specialty area
  • Must have good interpersonal, verbal and oral communication skills
  • Must be self-directed and take the initiative to develop and participate in community activities and medical outreach
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behavior

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the delivery of medical care to the patient by reviewing and monitoring treatment and therapy plans in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Order and interpret labs, imaging and procedures related to specialty of care.
  • Performs clinical procedures under the direction of attending physician according to approved hospital protocols.
  • Works in conjunction with Orthopedic residents for the management of spine patients.
  • Assist surgeon in the operating room on spinal and cranial cases.
  • Conduct bedside interventions with the supervision of attending provider including place of intracranial pressure monitors, external ventricular drains, and lumbar drains.
  • Performs comprehensive history and physical assessment.
  • Documents findings and noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Orders and interprets the appropriate diagnostic labs and tests.
  • Forms medical diagnoses based on history, assessment, and diagnostic findings.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates treatment plans.
  • Prescribes and recommends pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Initiates appropriate specialty consultations referrals when requisite.
  • Initiates and evaluates clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Collaborate with Attendings and/or Fellows regarding admissions and community transfers.
  • Facilitates the timely flow of patients via collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and supports all interdisciplinary relationships.
  • Recognizes acute/emergent situations requiring immediate responsiveness and initiates life-saving interventions, alerting the interdisciplinary team members for assistance.
  • Recognizes and incorporates age-specific requirements, communicates plan of care with patients and families.
  • Advocates for patients and family members in educational needs, treatment options, participation in care and ethical issues and patient rights with recognition and consideration of the diverse needs of the individual/family.
  • Provides consultation in specialty areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Coordinates meeting applicable clinical standards for all disciplines in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Explains anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient families, staff, and students.
  • Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency.
