About The Position

The APP Manager is responsible for managing a team of APPs across designated Departments and Divisions at National Jewish Health. This position will serve as a dyad leadership partner with Division Chiefs to oversee APP clinical practice, implement standardized workweek expectations, track productivity and quality outcomes, manage Kronos timekeeping, review time-out and scheduling requests, coordinate onboarding & orientation, and complete annual performance evaluations. The APP Manager will partner with Organizational, Department, and Division leaders for data & analytics support. The APP Manager will maintain clinical practice in home Department/Division. This position includes 80% time in clinical practice at National Jewish Health in a specialty that aligns with their education, training and experience, and 20% administrative time for leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree from accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) program required.
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience working as an APP.
  • Two years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Colorado RN, APRN, and RXN licensure or PA licensure required.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • APRN or PA certification by national accrediting body (ANCC, PNCB, NCCPA).
  • Active BLS, ACLS, or PALS appropriate to clinical practice area.
  • All certifications need to be from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources.
  • Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards.
  • Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Partners with Organizational, Department, and/or Division to track APP productivity and quality metrics.
  • Partners with Division and interdisciplinary leaders to optimize APP roles and practice models at top of scope.
  • Participates in Department, Division, and/or organizational quality initiatives to identify improvements and implement necessary changes.
  • Oversees new APP onboarding & orientation, Continuing Education, and mentorship.
  • Serves as communication liaison to APP Leads and staff regarding all clinical and administrative issues and concerns.
  • Represents APPs at leadership meetings and ensures APP participation and engagement with AP Council and other organizational committees.
  • Contributes to APP workforce planning and program development.
  • Partners with the Executive Director of Advanced Practice to establish structured onboarding, continuing education, and mentorship programs for APPs to ensure appropriate preparation for professional roles throughout the career trajectory.
  • Performs and documents history, physical exam, and medical decision-making to support plan of care.
  • Utilizes appropriate clinical resources to support evidence-based practice decisions.
  • Collaborates with physicians, APPs, and all care team members to optimize patient care quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Seeks out the expertise of physicians and APP colleagues to support medical decision-making as needed.
  • Adheres to all regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and Medical Staff Bylaws governing advanced practice.
  • Maintains continuing education to support knowledge and competencies required for clinical practice.
  • Participates in Department, Division, and organizational committees.
  • Participates in Advanced Practice Council meetings and activities.
  • Accepts additional responsibilities which are within the scope of the APP Manager to support the strategic priorities of the organization.
  • Accepts additional responsibilities which are within the scope of the APP to support the needs of the Department/Division/Program.
