About The Position

UT MD Anderson is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to support the Lymphoma-Myeloma service. The APP will deliver comprehensive clinical care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, working closely with attending physicians to manage patients throughout their continuum of care. This role involves direct patient care, clinical documentation, care coordination, and a wide range of diagnostic and treatment support activities. UT MD Anderson is a premier institution dedicated to cancer care, research, education, and prevention. In this role, the APP is crucial in advancing patient-centered care by ensuring high-quality, coordinated treatment delivery that aligns with best practices and physician direction. The ideal candidate will have full-time APP work experience and possess strong clinical training and experience in patient assessment, documentation, and coordination of oncology care. Prior bedside RN or APP experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (for APRN).
  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program (for PA, with exceptions for those graduating prior to 2013).
  • Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (specific authorizations listed).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Full time APP work experience.
  • Strong clinical training and experience in patient assessment, documentation, and coordination of oncology care.
  • Experienced NP or PA with direct inpatient experience, preferably in hematology/oncology.
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and care coordination skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • May be waived for APRN applicants who obtained recognition prior to 1/1/2003.
  • Prior bedside RN or APP experience is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of Oncology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing (may be required).
  • Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas (may be required).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100) (may be required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality patient care aligned with diagnosis, treatment plan, age group, development, and identified needs.
  • Perform outpatient clinical duties including preliminary assessments of new and follow-up patients.
  • Evaluate clinic and Emergency Center “drop-in” patients.
  • Conduct physical examinations and assess patient eligibility as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for clinic patients during physician absence or reassignment.
  • Dictate clinic progress notes for follow-up patients and consultation notes for new consults.
  • Dictate PMEs for new patients.
  • Write admission notes and orders for hospitalized patients.
  • Write outpatient orders including chemotherapy, IV fluids, transfusions, and growth factors.
  • Document patient information and clinical findings for physician review.
  • Assist with clinic-related paperwork including x-ray requests, scheduling, prescriptions, and chemotherapy orders.
  • Coordinate biopsies, consultations, and retrieval of lab, x-ray, and pathology reports.
  • Contact consulting physicians and support interdisciplinary communication.
  • Screen patient phone calls and escalate to physician when appropriate.
  • Assist physician with inpatient care as needed.
  • Work with alternate physician during assigned physician absence.
  • Attend department meetings related to patient care.
  • Support physician-directed activities during non-clinic hours.
  • Screen patients for eligibility and assist in preparation of chemotherapy orders during non-clinic hours.
  • Obtain charts and imaging for clinical analysis.
  • Perform bone marrow aspiration procedures.
  • Complete additional patient care and administrative duties as assigned by Medical Director or attending physician.
  • Other duties as assigned.
