About The Position

This is a high-impact, specialized APP opportunity where your procedural expertise directly enables safe, timely care across a complex adult inpatient environment. You will serve as a critical clinical partner, ensuring patients receive the sedation support needed to undergo essential procedures with confidence and safety. In this role, you will function as a procedural sedation specialist, supporting multiple service lines while driving efficiency, safety, and patient-centered outcomes. You will balance hands-on procedural care with consultation and clinical assessment in a dynamic, high-acuity setting. You will operate in a fast-paced inpatient environment, delivering sedation services that directly impact procedural productivity and patient outcomes. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
  • Department and unit specific experience.
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

  • Acute Care Certification highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide procedural sedation to adult patients across inpatient acute care units
  • Perform comprehensive pre-sedation assessments to determine patient appropriateness and risk
  • Continuously monitor and manage patients during sedation, ensuring safety and rapid response to clinical changes
  • Deliver post-procedural care, including recovery assessment and documentation
  • Collaborate with physicians, proceduralists, nursing teams, and hospital leaders to coordinate care delivery
  • Function within a Hybrid Business Model, balancing procedural execution with consultative responsibilities
  • Contribute to workflow optimization, ensuring timely completion of procedures across the hospital
  • Participate in quality, safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives
  • Navigate a high-acuity, high-visibility environment requiring advanced clinical judgment and decisive action
  • Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice
  • Acts as part of a specialty team, collaborating with other clinicians as appropriate
  • Provides health education to patients
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation
  • Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory standards
  • Supports development of best practices and protocols in specialty
  • Serves on committees and workgroups to enhance patient care
  • Provides education to learners in the clinical space
  • Mentors new team members
  • Contributes to clinical quality improvement work
  • Participates in professional governance through the APP Council
