About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pediatric Gastroenterology team. This role is focused on our Ambulatory Constipation Clinic, where you will lead the evaluation and management of patients with chronic functional constipation. As the primary point of contact for these families, you will initiate comprehensive care plans and provide the consistent follow-up necessary to achieve successful long-term outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program.
  • One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.
  • Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington (for Physician Assistants).
  • Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (for Physician Assistants).
  • Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment.
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.
  • Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.
  • Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive evaluations of pediatric patients, including detailed history-taking, physical examinations, and the review of prior diagnostic studies.
  • Diagnose and manage functional constipation using current clinical guidelines, initiating both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to each child’s needs, including dietary interventions and behavioral modification strategies.
  • Oversee patient progress and adjust regimens through a combination of in-person and telehealth follow-up visits.
  • Identify red-flag symptoms and collaborate closely with attending gastroenterologists to escalate care when medically necessary.
  • Provide clear, developmentally appropriate education regarding bowel function, toileting behaviors, hydration, and medication adherence.
  • Address the emotional and social aspects of chronic constipation, including toileting anxiety and school-related challenges.
  • Coordinate care with pelvic floor therapists, psychologists, and primary care providers to ensure a holistic approach.
