About The Position

The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Community Oncology Program. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide outpatient oncology and hematology care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment alongside physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and support staff. The APP will support community oncologists across multiple oncology specialties through patient follow-up visits, symptom management, care coordination, review of laboratory and diagnostic results, patient education, medication management, and in-basket support. This position is primarily based in Dallas and supports physicians who provide subspecialty oncology services within the Community Oncology Program. Providers may also assist with coverage at other community oncology locations, including Richardson, Moncrief, and RedBird, based on operational needs. Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of oncology and/or hematology experience required.
  • Graduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient oncology and hematology care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Support community oncologists across multiple oncology specialties through patient follow-up visits, symptom management, care coordination, review of laboratory and diagnostic results, patient education, medication management, and in-basket support.
  • Conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesize data and utilize evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
  • Provide relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitate/participate in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborate in research projects and protocols; and routinely apply evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
