About The Position

The Department of Stem Cell Transplantation, at MD Anderson Cancer Center, is seeking a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to join one of the largest stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy programs in the world. Our extensive expertise in the treatment of advanced blood cancers is aided by applying highly effective stem cell transplant methodologies using fully or partially matched donors and umbilical cord blood. In addition, our department offers a full range of services through our cell processing laboratory, including stem cell collection, manufacturing, infusion, and treatment of the patient. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider and possess strong analytical abilities, a commitment to collaborative care, patient advocacy, and education. Open to both APRN and PA candidates, with a preference for experience in stem cell transplant, hematology/oncology, or cellular therapy. New graduates are welcome to apply. Candidates must be flexible and comfortable working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The schedule is 3 days / 10 hours (30 hours a week) with occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

Requirements

  • Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100).
  • PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
  • At least one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Commitment to collaborative care, patient advocacy, and education.
  • Flexibility and comfort working in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in stem cell transplant, hematology/oncology, or cellular therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate comprehensive clinical knowledge, including pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, patient management, surgical principles, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Apply an investigatory and analytical approach to clinical situations, managing general medical and surgical conditions with expertise in pharmacologic agents (indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and adverse reactions) and other treatment modalities.
  • Foster collaborative professional relationships with physicians, healthcare team members, and administration.
  • Advocate for quality patient care and assist patients in navigating healthcare system complexities.
  • Counsel and educate patients and families on disease processes, illness management, and preventive health strategies.
