About The Position

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dedicated team. We are expanding our team of Advanced Practice Providers to enhance patient access and reduce scheduling disruptions, ensuring timely, high-quality care for every patient. This is a deeply rewarding specialty where your expertise and compassion will have a lasting impact on patients and their families. As an APP at Illinois CancerCare, you’ll be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team providing comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care. You’ll work both independently and alongside physicians to assess, diagnose, and manage oncology patients across outpatient and satellite clinic settings.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program (for NP/CNS).
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program (for NP).
  • Successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program (for CNS).
  • Current RN licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing in Illinois (for NP/CNS).
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (for NP).
  • Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (for CNS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (for PA).
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (for PA).
  • Current state license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois (for PA).

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3 years of post-MSN experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty (for NP/CNS).
  • 1–3 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty (for PA).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert oncology care including assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and symptom management.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions related to cancer and its treatments.
  • Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and manage oncology emergencies.
  • Provide care at satellite clinics with autonomy and physician collaboration.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and side effects.
  • Serve as a key liaison between patients, families, physicians, and clinic staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentor nursing staff and contribute to continuing education initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Lead APP to identify and address knowledge gaps.
  • Direct strategic planning of Advanced Practice Provider Program to promote continued growth and value to the practice.
  • Advocate for the role of APPs within the organization and the broader healthcare community.
  • Contribute to or collaborate with innovative specialty programs such as Palliative Care, Genetics, Smart Care, Survivorship, and Benign Hematology.
