About The Position

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO). The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for all areas of Pediatric General Surgery including the Trauma Acute Care Surgery (TACS) Service, Pediatric Specialty Service (PSS), and rotate through the outpatient surgery clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO). Key Responsibilities: Primarily inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders/progress notes, consults, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and minor procedures Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, residents/fellows, and hospital staff will be necessary Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel, and primary care providers is essential. The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics The work schedule may include up to 13hr shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. It is anticipated that this role will see more than half of the shifts be evenings/nights/weekends. Please be advised that this position is not eligible now or in the future for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master’s degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges (of those candidates with a Nurse Practitioner degree, an acute care certification is required)
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).
  • Current ATLS or successful completion within three months of hire.
  • Current BLS prior to hire and PALS certifications at time of or within six months of hire.
