About The Position

The Child and Adolescent PMHNP must demonstrate clinical experience and excellence with children and adolescents with psychiatric diagnoses, developmental differences, and the ability to manage different levels of acuity, including patients in different levels of care. (traditional inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalizations including the Neuropsychiatric Special Care (NSC) program (inpatient and partial hospitalization -day treatment).

Requirements

  • APRN or PA
  • APRN applicants must possess a Colorado RN license and Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Prescriptive authority is required.
  • PA applicants must be nationally certified by the NCCPA and have passed the Psychiatry Specialty Exam (CAQ).
  • Must have prior experience in a Child Psychiatric setting (may include experience as a RN prior to APRN training).
  • 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience practicing independently in a mental health setting.
  • History of working with milieu staff is desired.
  • 5+ years of post-degree experience in outpatient and hospital settings.
  • Clinical skill is required for conducting brief and targeted assessments in integrated care settings to provide short-term psychotherapy interventions, health and behavior change and triage for appropriate level of care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinical faculty and staff in psychiatry.
  • Strong commitment to inter-professional, team-based care in psychiatry
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations to community audiences on women’s health and behavioral health topics.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment.
  • Experience developing, training and supervising psychology trainees

Responsibilities

  • Ability to apply and implement evidence-based approaches to care including using evidence-based guidelines for prescriptions and monitoring medications in the pediatric population.
  • Able to perform initial psychiatric diagnostic interviews with a biopsychosocial focus, develop and follow through with treatment plans, and maintain timely and focused documentation through the electronic medical record.
  • Providing preceptor experiences for APRN students with the appropriate experience and certification from the University of Colorado-Anschutz College of Nursing.
  • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary setting consisting of physicians, psychologists, behavioral health clinicians, nursing, board certified behavioral analysts, behavioral health specialists, nursing, and trainees.
  • Carry a case load on the NSC inpatient unit and the NSC partial hospitalization program.
