About The Position

This is a full-time (0.5-1.0 FTE/0.5-1.0 cFTE) position in the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. The role involves responsibilities at the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Colorado Springs Campus on general medical pediatric inpatient units, as well as time in local community newborn well nursery sites. This position will include day and nocturnist shifts, including weekends and holidays. The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is expanding and provides expert inpatient medical care for children. They aim to provide exemplary family-centered care, seamless communication to referring providers, education for trainees, and scholarship in areas impacting inpatient pediatric care. Faculty members have a strong clinical focus, with some pursuing research, and also serve in administrative capacities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an APAP approved Physician Assistant Training Program (for PA).
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (for PA).
  • Graduate of an accredited BSN program (for NP/APRN).
  • APN licensure and a master's from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (for NP/APRN).
  • Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required (for NP/APRN).
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required (for NP/APRN).
  • Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado. Will need to qualify for and obtain prescriptive authority within one year of beginning position (for NP/APRN).
  • Colorado license will be required prior to start date.
  • BLS & PALS certification will be required prior to start date.
  • NRP will be required, but can be obtained following start date.
  • Minimum 0-4 years of experience in general pediatrics or hospital medicine (for Instructor rank).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general pediatrics or hospital medicine (for Sr. Instructor rank).
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • Must be willing to comply with all onboarding requirements of various community hospitals, Children’s Hospital Colorado Network of Care locations, the Main CHCO Campus in Aurora, and the CHCO Campus in Colorado Springs.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience in pediatrics.
  • Current CO state prescriptive authority.

Responsibilities

  • Care for pediatric patients of all age ranges, developmental, nutritional, and physiological status in the inpatient setting.
  • Works independently within the multidisciplinary team to provide quality inpatient care and disease management for a variety of pediatric inpatient conditions of varying acuity and complexity from admission through discharge, including coordination of discharge planning with case managers, social work, nurses, and other medical personnel.
  • Monitoring of illness progression ad escalation of care for decompensating patients.
  • LP procedural skills and privilege maintenance (initial procedural privileging can be obtained upon employment if not already privileged).
  • Care for well newborns in 3 locals community hospitals from admission to discharge.
  • Circumcision and frenotomy procedural skills and privilege maintenance (initial procedural privileging can be obtained upon employment if not already privileged).
  • Nocturnist role: Co-management with MD/DO attending coverage of Colorado Springs general medical inpatient team, including admissions, transfers, stabilization of decompensating patients. Coverage of nursery pager for all sites, including as needed evaluation of patients at the Memorial North nursery overnight.
