About The Position

Carilion Clinic is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join their Adult Reconstruction Orthopedics team. This full-time clinical role supports orthopedic surgeons specializing in hip and knee arthroplasty and provides care across the continuum, including clinic, virtual, and perioperative settings. Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program or Accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current Virginia licensure (or eligibility)
  • National board certification required (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA)
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Current PALS/NPR, as required, specific to position
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies
  • Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers
  • Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic’s malpractice insurance carrier
  • Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers
  • Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records

  • Prior orthopedic, surgical, or adult reconstruction experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills

  • Diagnostic imaging and laboratory interpretation

  • Familiarity with perioperative and enhanced recovery pathways
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hip and knee arthritis and related conditions
  • Assist with preoperative optimization and postoperative management
  • Provide inpatient care, including daily rounds, consults, admissions, and discharges
  • Serve as first assist in the operating room (as applicable)
  • Perform procedures such as joint injections, aspirations, and wound care
  • Educate patients and families on surgical and non-surgical treatment plans
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, rehabilitation services, and care coordination teams
  • Document accurately and efficiently within the electronic medical record
