About The Position

This is a full-time Faculty Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner) position in the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM). The position will have responsibilities at the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Colorado Springs Campus on general medical pediatric inpatient units, as well as time in local community newborn well nurseries. The role includes day and nocturnist shifts, weekends, and holidays. The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is expanding and provides expert inpatient medical care for children, offering 24/7 services at all Children's Colorado campuses and partner hospitals. The section aims to provide exemplary family-centered care, seamless communication to referring providers, and education to fellows, residents, medical students, and APP students. Faculty members focus on clinical care, with many pursuing research in education and clinical hospital medicine, and also serve in administrative capacities.

Requirements

  • APN licensure and a masters degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • BLS and PALS certification.
  • Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required.
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required.
  • Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado.
  • Will need to qualify for and obtain prescriptive authority within one year of beginning position.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in general pediatrics or hospital medicine.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all onboarding requirements of various community hospitals, Children's Hospital Colorado Network of Care locations and the CHCO Campus in Colorado Springs.
  • Colorado license, BLS, and PALS will be required prior to start date.
  • NRP required within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 8 or more years of experience in pediatrics.
  • Current CO state prescriptive authority.
  • Inpatient experience.
  • Knowledge of a variety of common pediatric and adolescent inpatient conditions.
  • Superior customer service, communication, organizational and prioritization, problem solving, and collaboration skills are necessary.
  • Expertise and training in history and physical examinations and determination of treatment plans necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Care for pediatric patients of all age ranges, developmental, nutritional, and physiological status in the inpatient setting.
  • Work independently within the multidisciplinary team to provide quality inpatient care and disease management for a variety of pediatric inpatient conditions of varying acuity and complexity from admission through discharge, including coordination of discharge planning with case managers, social work, nurses, and other medical personnel.
  • Perform history and physical examinations and determine treatment plans.
  • Monitor illness progression and escalate care for decompensating patients.
  • Perform LP procedural skills and maintain privilege.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary care including team meetings and patient care conferences.
  • Care for well newborns in 3 local community hospitals from admission to discharge.
  • Perform circumcision and frenotomy procedural skills and maintain privilege.
  • Perform nocturnist role: Co-management with MD/DO attending coverage of Colorado Springs general medical inpatient team, including admissions, transfers, stabilization of decompensating patients. Coverage of nursery pager for all sites, including as needed evaluation of patients at the Memorial North nursery overnight.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
