About The Position

The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. The Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA) in the Section of Urology works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge. Obtains medical histories and performs physical assessments. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests. Prescribes appropriate treatments. Screens patients. Facilitates care in collaboration with the surgeons. Makes referrals to other disciplines as necessary. May provide both inpatient and outpatient services as needed. Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions. Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization. Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care. Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities. Performs other related work as needed.

Requirements

College or university degree from an accredited school/college.
Knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required.
Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).

An advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).
Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills.
Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
Ability to interview and obtain medical information.
Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.
Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
Proficiency in the use of computers.
