About The Position

Cooper University Health Care is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - for their Acute Care Surgery team. This role involves comprehensive patient assessment and management, performing critical care procedures, coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team, continuous patient monitoring, family communication, clinical documentation, and leadership through education. The APP will also participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required
  • Board certification Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care certification or Board certification as Physician Assistant
  • Active New Jersey License
  • American Heart Association BLS and CDS/DEA

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, emergency medicine, or critical care settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of acute surgical patients, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with resident and attending physicians.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement/removal and wound care management.
  • Work closely with surgeons, critical care intensivists, surgery and medicine residents, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
  • Continuously evaluate patient condition, monitor vital signs, and interpret lab results, diagnostic imaging, and other data to guide treatment decisions.
  • Provide education and emotional support to patients' families, ensuring they are well-informed about the patient's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate electronic medical records (EMRs) of patient care, including assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Serve as a clinical leader through nursing staff education and contribute to the training of students and residents as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.
