Requirements

  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • Basic Life Support Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray and POC lab tests.
  • Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
  • Obtains, compiles and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination utilizing the Meditech EMR.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
  • Prescribes therapy or medication – electronically when available.
  • Educates, instructs and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.
  • Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with staff, medical staff and administration in support of operations.
