About The Position

UT Regional One Physicians is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Practitioner NP or PA for our Gastroenterology Department. Acts as the primary health care provider performing health care assessments, diagnosis, treatment, preventive health care, instructions and follow-up care to patients in the management of patient and family care following established protocols. Responsible for daily coordination and facilitation of Gastroenterology to provide optimal patient care including: patient education, assisting with procedures, patient assessment and follow-up.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience as a GI APP required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program Required
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates Required
  • Current unrestricted Tennessee License as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), current Registered Nurse license from either the State of Tennessee (RN) or from a რომელიც compact state that is the applicant’s primary state of residence or TN Licensed Physician Assistant Required
  • DEA certification Preferred
  • Current Certification by the National Certification Corporation (NCC), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or NCCPA Certification Required
  • Certificate of Fitness (Prescriptive privileges) in State of Tennessee and BLS Required

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily patient rounds or phone calls to patients for Gastroenterology.
  • Facilitation of new consults.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to develop and implement a seamless progression of care to meet the patient's needs.
  • Assist with evaluation and education of hospital staff including: assisting with GI procedures, safety, and patient evaluation and care.
  • Assists with development of new Policies and Procedures related to gastroenterology.
  • Coordinates and communicates with various departments regarding updates, maintenance and growth of gastroenterology.
  • Data collection for outcome evaluation, feedback and research.
  • Functions as the primary health care provider to a group of patients.
  • Obtains a health history and performs a physical exam in order to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan in accordance with established standards, procedures and practices.
  • Requisitions laboratory tests and x-ray exams when appropriate.
  • Assesses, treats and manages specific medical illnesses and conditions according to medical regime utilizing established protocols.
  • Consults and works collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers in compliance with iRESPECT standards to coordinate and implement activities, promote patient/customer satisfaction and to develop an effective treatment plan.
  • Provides direction to other personnel and reviews medical records to verify that patient’s care plan and medical needs are being met.
  • Provides referrals for hospitalization, tests, therapies or specialty consultations; makes hospital rounds if indicated.
  • Performs duties of registered nurse as required to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Advises and counsels patients and/or others concerning physical and developmental well-being and defines the needs and problems.
  • Identifies community health resources and guides patients and/or significant others in their use.
  • Provides for continuity of effective patient and family care by exchanging information and cooperating with other community health/social service agencies, hospitals and health care providers.
  • Develops and implements plans for teaching/counseling individuals, families and groups in various settings for the prevention of disease and maintenance of health.
  • Assists in the orientation and oversees the supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
  • Documents and updates medical and patient charts.
  • Prepares and maintain required records, reports, statistics and files.
  • Ensures patient care activities are updated and documented according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensures charges are documented on unit capture sheet and forwarded to proper location/staff for entry into billing system.
  • Collects and enters patient information into database system.
  • Ensures all charts are signed by physician before releasing to medical record department.
  • Maintains active credentialing by medical staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.
