The licensed pharmacy technician may work in hospital, retail, or ambulatory infusion clinic settings and may specialize in areas such as pharmacy purchasing and inventory, automation, sterile processing, IV chemotherapy, or medication reconciliation. Assigned duties depend on the technician’s agreed-upon work assignment with pharmacy supervisors or directors. Technicians may be assigned to different settings or skill areas. HonorHealth requires technicians working in physician-based ambulatory clinics to be licensed so they can float, provide cross-coverage, and work flexibly across pharmacy practice settings. The role includes general pharmacy technician duties and, as assigned, specialized responsibilities. General duties include preparing prescription orders and sterile and non-sterile medications, preparing oral solid unit doses, dispensing medications, operating automated dispensing machines, supporting controlled-substance distribution, assisting with inventory and purchasing, maintaining stock and expiration-date checks, completing quality-assurance inspections, keeping workspaces clean, and maintaining temperature logs. Specialized assignments may involve sterile or non-sterile compounding, including chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, and IV admixtures; purchasing and inventory control; hospital automation equipment and related workflows; medication preparation and delivery in ambulatory infusion clinics; retail and specialty pharmacy services; or obtaining and documenting medication histories for patients. The technician performs other duties as assigned.
