The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who, through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician, is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff, the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that include ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. In this role, with a specialized focus on prenatal patients, the APN will utilize critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of Medical/Psychiatric conditions/diseases. The APN practice will promote maternal and fetal wellness through patient education, preventative care, and participation in research initiatives. Functioning both autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the APN serves as a clinical resource and consultant, supporting coordinated care across the prenatal continuum.
