About The Position

Supports clinician teams in providing ambulatory care for obstetric and/or gynecology care. Primarily functions as an extender of care for physicians and/or nurse-midwives in order to enhance access and quality through a team-care approach to patient care. Practices collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the patient. Responsible for managing health problems encountered by the patient and is accountable for health outcomes. Schedule - Out patient care.

Requirements

  • Advanced Practice Clinicians must be certified in and licensed in at least one of the following positions and hold the requirements as listed below: Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA)
  • If a CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE: Master of Science degree in Nursing, required.
  • If a CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE: Current unrestricted Oregon RN license, required.
  • If a CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE: Graduate of a Certified Nurse Midwife education program accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and current certification as a Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • If a CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE: Current Oregon state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges (NP-PP), required.
  • If a CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR certification, required.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Master of Science in Nursing required.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner from an approved nurse practitioner program.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Current Oregon RN license required, and Washington RN license preferred.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) preferred or the equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience and/or current certification as a Nurse Midwife.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Current Oregon state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges (NP-PP) required.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR certification required.
  • If a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies.
  • If a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Current unrestricted Oregon PA license required.
  • If a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR certification required.
  • If a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Professional medical experience in a clinic setting required

Nice To Haves

  • If a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: previous physician assistant experience in women’s health, gynecology, and obstetrics preferred.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Washington RN license preferred.
  • If a NURSE PRACTIONER: Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) preferred or the equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience and/or current certification as a Nurse Midwife.

Responsibilities

  • Performs accurate history and physical examinations for a low- to moderate-risk patient population.
  • Writes prescriptions for pharmaceuticals and other necessary medical supplies.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and screening tests; differentiates between normal findings and those requiring treatment.
  • Demonstrates independent judgment in monitoring and responding to changes in a patient’s condition, consulting, co-managing, or referring as appropriate.
  • Provides continuity of care between visits according to treatment plans, including triaging patient calls.
  • Communicates case management information to other healthcare professionals, clinician teams, and community agencies.
  • Performs surgeries and procedures within scope of licensure, demonstrating surgical skill, dexterity, and competency with equipment.
  • Provides inpatient obstetrical care in accordance with WHA and hospital guidelines, including labor management, delivery, repair of lacerations/episiotomy, and management of minor complications; initiates emergency care as needed.
  • Conducts admission triage, discharge, and rounding for obstetric patients.
  • Assesses and documents patients’ status and needs through interviews, chart reviews, and physical examinations; seeks additional information and consultation as needed.
  • Provides individualized teaching and counseling regarding health care plans; promotes wellness through education, counseling, and written materials.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare providers in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Completes timely and accurate clinical documentation in the EMR, following WHA guidelines, coding standards, and charge submission requirements.
  • Adheres to prescribed standards of practice and established quality assurance levels, acting under the guidelines of the Chief Medical Officer, WHA, and relevant state boards.
  • Shares call responsibilities, as defined by WHA, for the care of WHA patients.
  • Participates in clinician, employee, and other WHA meetings as required.
