About The Position

STGi is seeking a seasonal Advanced Practice Clinician (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) to provide services at our seasonal facilities at Yellowstone National Park. This role offers the opportunity to work in one of three medical clinics located at Old Faithful, Lake Village, and Mammoth Hot Springs. The seasonal facilities (Lake and Old Faithful) operate from April/May until mid to late October. The Mammoth Hot Springs Clinic offers primary care, occupational health, and urgent/emergency care. The Old Faithful and Lake Village facilities provide urgent/emergency care, occupational healthcare, and some primary care for Park residents and employees. A wide age range of patients with diverse injuries and illnesses are seen.

Requirements

  • Advanced Practice Clinician (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) license
  • Ability to work in Yellowstone National Park during the spring/summer season.
  • Ability to treat patients, lift and move patients, secure patients for transport, and transfer patients to medical facilities from remote clinics.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, operate, and manipulate a patient gurney in outdoor environments during patient transfers.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ECGs and rhythm strips.
  • Experience in obtaining and interpreting plain radiographs.
  • Experience managing cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Experience in initial stabilization of major trauma and critically ill or injured patients.
  • Experience managing myocardial infarction, including administration of thrombolytic agents.
  • Experience with airway management with Rapid Sequence Airway.
  • Experience administering procedural sedation.
  • Experience managing orthopedic injuries, including closed reduction of dislocations and fracture stabilization.
  • Willingness to be on-call for after hours patients on a rotational basis.
  • Ability to identify and report problems with hardware, telecommunications or other issues impacting duties.
  • Ability to utilize IT systems for database tracking and other deliverables.
  • Willingness to attend training on IT systems and complete mandatory IT training by specified deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
  • Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.
  • Inform physicians of patient's condition during anesthesia.
  • Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, or other anesthetics.
  • Conduct specified laboratory tests.
  • Direct or coordinate infection control programs, advising about necessary precautions.
  • Prescribe or recommend drugs, medical devices, or other forms of treatment as deemed appropriate.
  • Perform physical examinations.
  • Provide training or instruction of auxiliary personnel and monthly rotating APC or medical students, June - September.
  • Treat patients, lift and move patients, secure patients for transport, and transfer patients to medical facilities from your remote clinic.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, operate, and manipulate a patient gurney in outdoor environments during patient transfers.
  • Potential need to rescue victims as needed by rendering emergency care, emergently moving patients from danger and securing the patient for transport, perform physical exams and treat patients enroute to hospitals, or at disaster triage sites if assisting the National Park Service in a mass casualty event.
  • Independently care for acutely and critically ill patients, including: Interpret ECGs and rhythm strips, Participate in obtaining and interpret plain radiographs, including extremity and chest films, Manage cardiopulmonary arrest, Initial stabilization of major trauma, including vehicular trauma and trauma resulting from animal attacks, Initial Stabilization of critically ill or injured patients, Manage myocardial infarction, including administration of thrombolytic agents, Airway management with Rapid Sequence Airway, Administer procedural sedation, Manage orthopedic injuries, including closed reduction of dislocations and fracture stabilization.
  • Be available on-call for after hours patients on a rotational basis as outlined by operational needs of the National Park Service EMS.
  • Identifies and reports problems to supervisor with hardware, telecommunications or other issues impacting duties.
  • Utilizes IT systems for database tracking and other deliverables.
  • Attends training on IT systems, both initially and with updates; asks for help when needed.
  • Completes mandatory IT training by specified deadlines.
  • Informs supervisor of IT and other equipment needs, particularly those that prevent completing projects within specified deadlines.
