Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Current DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing privileges, as applicable.
  • BLS certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Strong communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior telehealth, triage, urgent care, or after-hours clinical experience.
  • Experience utilizing Epic or a comparable electronic medical record system.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patient concerns through telephone and virtual encounters.
  • Assess symptoms, determine acuity, and provide clinical recommendations using evidence-based guidelines.
  • Facilitate appropriate disposition, including home care, urgent care evaluation, emergency department referral, or provider follow-up.
  • Manage urgent, high-priority, and routine patient calls in accordance with department policies.
  • Review and address abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results when assigned.
  • Provide medication management, prescription renewals, and treatment recommendations within scope of practice and organizational protocols.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage schedules.
  • Maintain awareness of call volume and support workflow management during periods of high demand.
  • Utilize Epic, secure chat, telephony systems, and other technology platforms required for patient care delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with PSRs, RNs, charge clinicians, and operational leadership to support departmental workflow.
  • Assist with management of clinical queues, message pools, and patient follow-up needs.
  • Adapt to changing patient volumes and operational demands while maintaining quality and service standards.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for support staff and colleagues when appropriate.
  • Participate in onboarding, mentoring, and support of new clinicians.
  • Escalate patient safety concerns, workflow barriers, or operational issues through established channels.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-focused team environment.
  • Support departmental initiatives aimed at improving patient access, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor call volume, message pools, and overall workflow.
  • Assist with distribution of urgent and emergent patient calls.
  • Provide real-time support and guidance to clinical and support staff.
  • Coordinate staffing adjustments, break assignments, and operational communication during assigned shifts.
  • Escalate significant operational concerns to leadership when indicated.
