About The Position

Provides diagnostic and therapeutic health services to patients and family members in an Emergency Medicine setting, with or without physician supervision as appropriate. Obtains a health and developmental history from the patient or family member and performs a detailed physical exam, records findings, and formulates differential diagnoses and develops plan of care. Provides emergent or urgent patient care including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for patients that present to the Emergency Department. Performs or requests screening or diagnostic tests and interprets the results. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical or emotional problems. Makes decisions concerning the medical needs of patients, which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consultation and referral when appropriate. Works collaboratively with physician in management of complex medical problems. Participates with other professionals and agencies as needed or as required, regarding management of infectious disease, environmental health and health education. Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshops, and home study. Recognizes when physician involvement is needed for the care of a patient and consults appropriately. Recognizes when a patient requires a higher level of care and stabilizes the patient until a higher level of care is available. Teaches patients and family member’s ways to maintain or improve their health status. Complies with departmental policies and guidelines. Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (PI) review processes. Will be required to work in all areas of the Emergency Department including the main Emergency Room and Fast Track. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have a valid unrestricted insurable driver's license.
  • Resume and references are required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Two (2) years of relevant experience working as a Nurse Practitioner in an Urgent Care, Emergency Department or as a Hospitalist.
  • OR, One (1) year of post-graduate Emergency Nurse Practitioner Residency in an Emergency Department.
  • OR, Five (5) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department.
  • Physician Assistant: No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as defined in the education qualifications listed below.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Completion of an Accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner School in any of the following areas: Family Nurse Practitioner, or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner AND Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Active and unrestricted Advanced Nurse Practitioner license in any U.S. State or Territory in any of the following areas: Family Nurse Practitioner, or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner AND Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Nurse Practitioner: National Certification from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in any of the following areas: Accredited Family Nurse Practitioner, or Accredited Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner AND Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Current, valid, and unrestricted U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Must maintain an active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) License from any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Physician Assistant: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Physician Assistant: Board Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Physician Assistant: Active and unrestricted Physician Assistant License from any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Physician Assistant: Current, valid, unrestricted, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License.
