About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Mechanical Engineer to provide technical engineering leadership within a manufacturing facility producing electrical safety gloves and other industrial safety glove products. This role is responsible for the design, improvement, reliability, and safe operation of mechanical systems, manufacturing equipment, and production processes within a highly regulated manufacturing environment, including areas subject to Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and Class I, Division 1 hazardous-location requirements. The Advanced Mechanical Engineer will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, R&D, and other Engineering functions to troubleshoot complex equipment and process issues, improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance, support capital projects, and ensure engineering solutions meet applicable safety, regulatory, quality, and hazardous-location requirements. This position requires a hands-on engineer who is comfortable spending significant time on the manufacturing floor and working directly with production and maintenance teams to solve technical problems.

  • Experience in developing technical scopes of work, cost estimates, and project schedules
  • Ability to evaluate equipment and technology options
  • Experience coordinating with equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, contractors, and suppliers
  • Experience providing engineering oversight during equipment installation and modification
  • Ability to analyze equipment performance, downtime, and failure history
  • Experience leading root cause analysis for mechanical failures
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Ability to investigate equipment or process conditions contributing to product defects
  • Experience supporting new product introductions and manufacturing trials
  • Ability to participate in risk assessments, FMEAs, and validation activities
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship
  • Experience developing and maintaining engineering standards and technical documentation

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced mechanical engineering support for manufacturing equipment, systems, utilities, tooling, and production processes used in the manufacture of electrical safety and industrial safety gloves.
  • Design, modify, and improve mechanical equipment and manufacturing systems to enhance safety, reliability, quality, throughput, and productivity.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, equipment, and process-related failures and lead structured root cause investigations.
  • Develop sustainable corrective and preventive actions for recurring equipment and manufacturing issues.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and processes to identify reliability, safety, capacity, quality, and productivity improvements.
  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, startup, and ongoing production support.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Operations to improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies and reduce unplanned equipment downtime.
  • Provide technical support during significant equipment failures and production interruptions.
  • Provide engineering support within a PSM-covered manufacturing facility and ensure mechanical engineering activities align with site Process Safety Management requirements.
  • Design, evaluate, and modify equipment and mechanical systems used within Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations.
  • Ensure equipment selection, installation, modification, and maintenance activities comply with applicable hazardous-location requirements and site engineering standards.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), incident investigations, and other PSM activities.
  • Support mechanical integrity programs for PSM-covered equipment and systems.
  • Review proposed equipment and process modifications for potential impacts to employee safety, process safety, environmental compliance, product quality, and manufacturing operations.
  • Partner closely with EHS to identify and mitigate mechanical and process-related risks.
  • Ensure engineering documentation is appropriately updated following equipment or process modifications.
  • Lead and support capital projects involving manufacturing equipment, process systems, facility infrastructure, and production improvements.
  • Develop technical scopes of work, equipment specifications, cost estimates, project schedules, and implementation plans.
  • Evaluate equipment and technology options and provide technical recommendations.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering oversight during equipment installation, modification, commissioning, and startup.
  • Ensure new and modified equipment meets applicable machine safety, PSM, hazardous-location, quality, and operational requirements before release to production.
  • Identify project risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze equipment performance, downtime, failure history, and maintenance data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead root cause analysis for significant or recurring mechanical failures.
  • Develop engineering solutions that improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to improve equipment maintainability and long-term performance.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production capacity, cycle time, yield, scrap, ergonomics, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Partner with Quality, Operations, and R&D to ensure manufacturing equipment and processes consistently support product requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for the manufacture and testing of electrical safety gloves and other safety products.
  • Investigate equipment or process conditions contributing to product defects, variation, or quality concerns.
  • Support new product introductions, process changes, material changes, and manufacturing trials.
  • Participate in risk assessments, FMEAs, validation activities, and corrective action investigations.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, and Engineering teams.
  • Lead complex technical troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, technicians, maintenance personnel, and other technical team members.
  • Lead or participate in engineering design reviews, risk assessments, and project reviews.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, equipment specifications, drawings, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Promote a strong Safety First culture by ensuring safety and process risk are incorporated into engineering decisions.
  • Ensure engineering changes maintain required product quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
